Microbes in Health and Disease Training Program

Faculty

All trainers are productive scientists with NIH or equivalent funding and considerable graduate training experience. Most are tenured. We feel that it is vital to include junior faculty within the Training Program, since faculty development is critical for the long-term vitality of the program. We have selected junior faculty with outstanding potential for training based on their funding and training success. Still, each junior faculty, non-tenured trainer will have a senior trainer assigned to mentor them in training. The trainer pool may evolve, with new trainers entering after application and review by the Steering Committee or current trainers leaving after annual review by the Steering Committee. Criteria for designation of trainer status, including new faculty applicants and for continuation of trainer status for existing trainers, are:

  1. Research focus in the role of microbes in health and disease.
  2. Commitment to training as shown by the record of past and current students and postdoctoral fellows.
  3. Ability to provide adequate resources and training environment as indicated by review of an NIH biosketch and research funding support
  4. Evidence of and/or commitment to participation in Training Program activities such as course teaching, Steering Committee service, co-mentoring on trainee thesis committees, attendance at MPHRG/Symbiosis events, Seminar series, etc.
